2008 NICHE Award Winners Announced
Philadelphia, Pa. (February 17, 2008) - The coveted 2008 NICHE Awards were
presented to artists in 35 professional categories and 15 student categories on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at the Buyers Market of American Craft in Philadelphia.
Professional and student craft artists from across the United States and Canada
submitted more than 2,100 entries for the 2008 competition. In November 2007,
NICHE magazine announced the 151 professional finalists and 76 student
finalists, who were invited to display their work in the NICHE Awards exhibit at the Buyers Market of American Craft, a wholesale trade show in Philadelphia, February
15-18, 2008.
Sponsored by NICHE magazine, the exclusive trade publication for progressive
retailers of American craft, the NICHE Awards program recognizes excellence and
innovation in the American and Canadian craft art industry.
The categories included art using recycled material, and artist designs of
teapots, lamps, goblets, jewelry, Judaica and furniture. Entries were judged on
technical excellence, both in surface design and form; a distinct quality of
unique, original and creative thought; and market viability (professional
entries only). Also honored was the 2008 Arts Educator of the Year.
A complete list of the 2008 winners follows and can also be viewed at
