Buyers Market of American Craft Opens Wholesale Doors to New Wave of Traditional Printers
New Letterpress Pavilion Debuts at Summer Buyers Market, August 4-6, 2007

Baltimore, Md. (January 17, 2007)—The Buyers Market of American Craft is proud to announce the addition of its new Letterpress Pavilion at the upcoming summer Buyers Market, August 4-6, 2007.  The nation’s largest wholesale craft show, the semiannual Buyers Market features nearly 1,500 artist exhibitors and attracts approximately 9,000 attendees annually.

The new Letterpress Pavilion will feature artist-designed, hand-printed items such as stationary, greeting cards, envelopes and other paper products. Show Director Christine Kloostra sees the addition as a growth opportunity for both letterpress printers and wholesale buyers who sell hand-printed products in their gallery or shop.

“It’s a perfect match for the Buyers Market,” says Kloostra.  “The tradition of creating printed materials by hand is nearly as old as many of the methods craft artists in other mediums use to create their work. Letterpress designs are often quirky, unique and affordable, making it easy for buyers to try these products in their retail outlet.”

Dating back to the 14th century, letterpress printing involves applying ink to metal type and engraved plates, which are then pressed against a smooth surface to produce an indented, sometimes colorful image. According to a recent Time magazine article, the letterpress industry is undergoing a significant renaissance, with approximately 500 new printing businesses opening within the past three years.

Letterpress printers exhibiting in the August Buyers Market will need to meet the same requirements as exhibitors in all other mediums.  Original designs must be by the exhibitor and produced in their studio. The designer/press operator must be present at the show.

Printers interested in obtaining more information about the Buyers Market should contact Laura Bamburak, Mixed Media Exhibits Manager, at 410-889-2933 x227.
