Fiber Associations to Exhibit at the Philadelphia Buyers Market

Baltimore, Md. (June 19, 2008)—At the invitation of the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft, several major fiber arts organizations will display examples of their members’ work, August 2-4, in a new exhibit on the tradeshow floor.

Artists and retailers can visit this new Fiber Arts Showcase, located near the fashion show stage and the wearable art section of the show. The group exhibit will showcase recent works, both decorative and wearable, in many fiber
disciplines--all displayed in a beautifully lit, hard-walled exhibit area.

“We’ve been looking for opportunities to give the contemporary fiber arts associations and their members a venue to encourage galleries to add more collectible art quilts and fiber to their mix of art objects,” says Wendy Rosen, founder and president of The Rosen Group, producer of the Buyers Market. “For art gallery owners, this is an opportunity to see a selection of high-quality work from around the country.”

“We’re looking forward to working with the fiber guilds and groups,” she added. The organizations invited to participate include Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (which has taken the lead in coordinating the exhibit), Handweavers Guild of America, Surface Design Association, Embroiderers Guild of America and Silk Painters International.

“Fiber art of all kinds, especially contemporary wall pieces, are the perfect complement to blown glass, ceramics, turned wood and handcrafted furniture,” Ms. Rosen says. “We’re very proud to help those artists on the cutting edge of the field, artists who are ready to turn their love of quiltmaking into a both a business and a new and growing sector of collecting.”

The Buyers Market of American Craft is the nation’s largest wholesale tradeshow of fine craft made by artists in the United States and Canada. It will take place August 2-4 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. For more information, please call 800-432-7238.
